The Big 2 Trivia Winners
Winners of the December 2010 Golf Trivia contest have been determined. For a refresher, here was the question:
Who is considered “The Big Three” in golf, widely credited with popularizing the sport around the world.
(A) Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson, Lee Trevino
(B) Lee Trevino, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player
(C) Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player
(D) Arnold Palmer, Bobby Jones, Jack Nicklaus
Of course, the answer is (C).
Tons of articles confirm this. Here’s one from the NY Times:
The Big Three — that’s how they were known when Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Gary Player were dominating the PGA Tour and the major championships.
There were over 40 correct entrants. Two were chosen at random for the 2 free golf* for 2 at Houston National Golf Club certificates (sounds a little confusing doesn’t it).
Drumroll please…..
Mick Stum
Stephen Schulz
Congrats guys. I’d also like to point out that Stephen is the first multi-prize winner on the site. (He also won free golf during the summer.)
Thanks to everyone who participated!

Construction has begun on the fourth nine at Houston National Golf Club. In addition to these new nine holes, the current South course is closed while undergoing a complete renovation. The North and West 9′s are currently open for play, but will also see major improvements over the coming months. When the South course and the new 9 holes open in Fall of 2011, they will constitute Sterling Country Club, a private members’ only experience. Members of Sterling Country Club will have access to all 36 holes plus the stunning Houston National Clubhouse, locker rooms and Canyon Grille. The public will still be able to play the updated North and West 18. Make your tee time to play Houston National today! We are open and better than ever!

Ryder Cup Answers

Alarm clock company shares soar after Furyk win.
Congrats to Jim Furyk who pulled off an $11 million sand save. Just behind that, Houston Golf Nut is pleased to announce the winner of the September Trivia Contest Part 2.
Question: Which U.S. golfer has played the most Ryder Cup matches?
(A) Lee Trevino
(B) Lanny Wadkins
(C) Raymond Floyd
(D) Arnold Palmer
(E) Billy Casper
If you’ll remember, I included a link to the official Ryder Cup website along with the question. (Who said I’m not a pushover?) A handful of people misinterpreted the question as “Who played the most Ryder Cups?”. The answers to both questions are on the same Ryder Cup All Time Records page.

Billy Casper has the most matches in the Ryder Cup with 37.
The winners, chosen at random from the correct entrants, are:
Shane P. Walker – Blaketree National Golf Club (for 4)
Glenn Flood – Clear Creek Golf Club (for 1)
Chris Sanders – Houston National Golf Club (for 2)

Houston National Golf Club Renovations
There are plenty of exciting changes taking place at Houston National. Within weeks, we will begin construction on our fourth nine holes, which upon completion will make us a 36 hole facility. Along with the construction of the fourth nine, we will also be renovating our South course and making upgrades to our current North and West courses. During the construction, Houston National will be an 18 hole facility. It will reopen in the Fall of 2011 with 18 public holes and 18 private holes. These 18 private holes, in conjunction with the clubhouse will comprise “Sterling Country Club at Houston National,” an exclusive members’ only golf experience. Public and tournament play will continue on the North and West nines with annual passes still available for Houston National Golf Club.
We invite you to come check out our progress and of course to play! The course is shaping up great for fall and our Pro Shop is stocked with brand new merchandise! To learn more about memberships at Sterling Country Club at Houston National or Annual Passes to Houston National, or to book a tee time, call 281-304-1400 or email membership@houstonnationalgolf.com.

A) Tiger Woods & Ernie Els
B) Phil Mickelson & Tiger Woods

For a golfer with half a heartbeat, this would be like playing softball with a beach ball. Of course, the answer is (C). Check out the Wikipedia page on more FedEx Cup info.
The winners are:

Blake Reetz – Fort Bend Country Club (for 1)
