Remember that scene in Dumb & Dumber where Jim Carrey is about to be assaulted by Sea Bass in the gas station bathroom?  Resigning to the fact that he’s about to be molested, Jim Carrey huddles in the corner of the stall, sucks his thumb, and whispers like a broken record to himself, “Find a happy place… find a happy place… find a happy place…”

Is that what Dustin Johnson went through yesterday?  We’ve seen some major meltdowns before, but the only way it could have gotten worse is if he actually shit his pants and had to walk around with the stain in his shorts all day.

Maybe that’s the one (and only) thing that NASCAR has in common with golf.  In NASCAR, fans are enamored with the possibility of a car wreck.  In golf, like we witnessed yesterday with Dustin Johnson, it’s the same thing.  You can’t help but peek between your fingers at a train wreck.

PREDICTION:  Don’t forget you heard it here first.  Tiger Woods will win the 2010 British Open at St. Andrews.  We saw a glimpse of the real Tiger on Saturday with a stunning 31 on the back nine.  He’s close.  Even as “poor” as he’s playing (relative only to his own legacy), he still came in 4th and tied with FIGJAM.  His “poor” would be a career tourney for most players.

U.S. Open Pebble Beach Fever

The latest and greatest Guess That Hole contest of June 2010 ended yesterday.  I thought it was pretty easy, but that’s just because I’ve played there a bunch.  The correct answer was Bear Creek Masters Hole #8.  There were only 8 people who got it right and the winner chosen at random is:

I’m not quite done today.  As you may have heard on the news, this upcoming weekend is the FRIGGIN U.S. OPEN!!!!!  At Pebble Beach none the less!  So many story lines to choose from.  Will Phil take over the #1 ranking?  Can Tom Watson follow up his amazing run at last year’s British Open on another course he’s won at? Oh, and there’s this guy called Tiger Woods who’s also playing.  Can he finally put some magic together?

Fort Bend Country Club Accepting Public Play

Fort Bend Country Club is accepting public play and the rates are $35.00 for cart and green fee on Tuesdays through Thursdays and $50.00 on weekends and holidays.  All that is needed is a tee time.  There is all the info at our web site Fort Bend CC.com.

Welcome Fort Bend Country Club

Houston Golf Nut would like to welcome its newest golf course partner: Fort Bend Country Club.  I had the opportunity to play there last weekend with my buddy Rob and we had a blast.

Not only was the course in great condition, it was also reasonably priced and not packed to the gills!  Typically on a sunny weekend morning at a Houston course, you might as well bring a copy of War and Peace to help pass the time between shots.  Rob and I teed off at 8am and I don’t think we waited once during our whole round for anybody ahead of us.
