Playacar Golf Course
Hey all, I recently got back from my destination wedding and honeymoon. My beautiful bride and I got married in Tulum, Mexico at Dreams Tulum and after that, we honeymooned in Playa del Carmen at The Royal resort.
Luckily enough, I was allowed to play golf and played at the golf course at Playacar, another resort in Playa del Carmen.

Overall, it’s not as expensive as it looks on the site. Maybe because it’s technically out of season. Regular green fees are $190, but twilight was only $65. Although, add in $35 for club rentals and $25 for extra rider and 8 used balls (at $1 per ball), we’re at $133. I would never pay that in Houston, but on vacation at a resort makes it more than acceptable.

Even though I thought it’d be slow, I was paired up with 3 others. One dude from Seattle who was pretty good and a married couple from Alberta, Canada. (There are tons of people from Canada who vacation in the Riviera Maya which is fine by me because I’m practically Canadian myself, growing up 15 minutes from the border.)
Not surprisingly, the chic topped it on the first tee box and the ball trickled about 5 feet. (I can joke about that because I used to do that all the time.) About 10 shots later, she made it on the green! Whooopeeeee!
I was on in 3 (my Indian name is On-in-3-Koss), but missed the bogey putt. Oh, did I mention the golf course is all-inclusive, so you can drink all you want.

The course was awesome! Very green! Don’t miss left or right though because it’s damn near impossible to find your ball if you hit it in the woods. They call it the jungle.
I number of holes boast water and most greens are guarded moderately by sand bunkers.

The Canooks split after 9, so Seattle guy and I started blazing through the course, trying to finish before sundown. Apparently, I had had about 7 or 8 beers (someone was counting), but I was just having fun out there and quit keeping score at some point on the front (probably after my 2nd blowup hole).

If you ever make it down there, no matter how good or bad you are, it’s always fun to play a beautiful golf course (and not keep score). Let me know if you’ve ever played down there or any other course in the Cancun/Playa Del Carmen/Cozumel area.

HGN: I too played Playacar while at a destination wedding a few months ago. Lost tons of balls in the lush jungle, one shot actually hit the middle of the green and ended up gone forever. I didn’t know I could’ve drank for free, although we did stay at the Playacar Palace which was all inclusive. Oh I should add it was about 98 degrees and 105 percent humidity in June.

Damn, that weather sounds as bad as Houston during the summer. When you get done playing, before you jump in the shower, you are basically peeling your underwear off. It’s so wet, it sticks to your body.
