Melrose Park Golf Course
This course is a hacker’s special. Melrose Park Golf Course is a dumpy, par-3 goat field. But it’s really cheap! It’s a great place if you really suck or if you want to work on your short game. It costs maybe $14 or so on the weekend and only $10 during the week.
They claim to have lights so the course stays open until 10pm, but I’m not sure if I’d want to be in that neighborhood after dark, so I wouldn’t advise that.
The greens are hard as a rock, so go down a club and target the very front of the green or even a few yards in front of it. A few of the holes have water, but it’s pretty hard to lose a ball besides that. There might only be one hole longer than 130 yards – most are between 100 yards and 120 yards.
If you prefer to play anonymously or introduce a newbie to the game, this is your place.

A goat field? It is pretty bad. I played there a couple of weeks ago. The greens are definitely, shall we say, challenging. I had one putt that hit something…probably dirt.. and bounced straight up and another straight to the right…both were pretty good putts…of course. Still, it is a good place to practice your short game. Their are lights. However, I don’t think they actually work. Stay out of the patch of woods on the 11th and 12th holes. I think they’re inhabited…at least that’s the legend. I played my first ever round of golf at Melrose….30 years ago or there abouts so it has a special place in my memories. Shoes weren’t required then…maybe they’re still not.
