I think that so many players over do the lateral slide that teachers say things that are not actually true in order to get a student to stop making a bad move. This probably works best for the majority....unfortunately some people actually accomplish the literal advice from the teacher and get messed up by this. This is where a great teacher shines....knowing how much to reveal to the student and how much to blow smoke.
