How to Play “Extraordinary Golf”
I’m reading this golf book right now. It’s titled Extraordinary Golf: The Art of the Possible, written by Fred Shoemaker.
I’ve read (or thumbed through) a ton of other golf books out there and even bought a few. Most I’ve seen focus totally on the mechanics of the swing and that sort of thing.
This book focuses more on the mental aspect, but kinda from a different place. One intriguing point in the beginning is that out of the typical 4 hour round, a golfer is only actually swinging the club or setting up for a shot about 5% of the time. This book focuses on the other 95%.
The chapter I’m reading now deals with the cultural similarity that all golfers share: “My golf swing is broken and I need to fix it.”
I’m about 4 chapters in and so far, it’s pretty good. If anyone actually picks it up, let me know what you think.

Houston Area Holes-in-One
I added a page for Houston-area holes-in-one. The information is published weekly in the newspaper so I just get it from there. Click on the link in the top nav bar to check it out.
Maybe one day I’ll get mine!

Funny Golf Instruction Video
I just ran into this funny golf video going over some personal instruction. Don’t let your girlfriends or wives visit this guy. Has anyone heard any stories of an instructor getting to friendly?

Bear Creek Tourney
The Houston Golf Nut is just recovering from Saturday (oh, it’s Tuesday morning btw). As all of you don’t know, yours truly is tying the knot next month in Tulum, Mexico. [Insert swine flu joke here.] This past weekend, the bestest man, Moe-man, hooked up a top-notch golf scramble on the Bear Creek President’s Golf Course as part of the celebratory events for the Bachelor Party. After a few beers, some silliness ensued….

The golf course is pretty easy so it’s perfect for this type of event where you might have a number of shitty out-of-practice players. The team of Jim, Billy, Brian, and the Houston Golf Nut won with a +2. Moe, Manuel, and Tom (who’s a Buckeye fan and his team lost during the round to lowly Purdue — BONUS!) shot a +9 and Bobby, Benny, and Tim didn’t have enough fingers and toes to keep track of their final score, although Bobby claimed to have shot an eagle, although I know for a fact that there aren’t any par-9′s on this course.
When the round was over, the staff hooked us up with a free meal of beef brisket, sausage, and potato salad — YUMMY. All in all, a great time mixed in with some good golf shots (and many bad ones).
Oh, and just to dispel any rumors up front, a donkey, a bucket of ice, and a midget were never officially part of the nighttime activities.

Brock Park Golf Course
The Houston Golf Nut has been forced to play Brock Park Golf Course numerous times this past year due to the economical climate. At $17 to walk on weekends, you really can’t beat the price, but, does the course hold up? Read more…

Houston Weather… BAD!
Well, it was a tough weekend for Houston golfers because it was unlikely anyone could get a round in. After my morning football game ended in an overtime loss (argggghh!), I was looking forward to squeezing in a quick round at Brock or Gus.
That idea quickly got squashed when I walked outside and it was practically black outside. Sunday was even worse. And look at the rest of the week.
It might not even get any better this weekend! My Saturday morning is cleared so let’s hope mother nature doesn’t prevent me from hacking it up good on another Houston golf course.
